Berwick-upon-Tweed Holiday Cottages

Berwick-upon-Tweed is an enigma. Situated on the northern banks of a Scottish river it's an English town who's football team plays in the Scottish leagues.
Berwick is an historic market town which has changed hands between England and Scotland no less than 14 times between its capture by the Scots (around 1018) and its eventual retaking by the English in 1482. It was one of the most important towns and ports in Scotland in the 12th to 13th centuries but its fortunes waned in the many conflicts the town had to endure.
Nowadays Berwick is one of the most attractive towns on the Northumberland coast. Many visitors each year are drawn to its red roofed houses, historic Georgian buildings and seventeenth century bridge spanning the River Tweed. Most notable of the town's buildings are the spired town hall of 1754 and the parish church of Holy Trinity.
A walk around the historic tudor town walls should not be missed for some great views into the town as well as of the River Tweed, the bridges and the surrounding countryside.
There are also plenty of interesting shops, beaches and other facilities including the Berwick Barracks Museum and the Maltings Arts Centre.
And with some beautiful borders countryside close by berwick-upon-Tweed makes an ideal place to rent a holiday cottage.
